If you live in Kansas City, then you know that we got some major storms last night. Lots of damage across the metro area and thankfully no one was injured seriously. I was thinking about Storms and tornadoes and it dawned on me that all of us will have to deal with storms at some point in our lives. Someone once said, you are either going into a storm, you are in the middle of a storm or you are coming out of a storm.
I believe that storms in life cause us to focus our attention on things that really matter. I was at Applebees when the tornado sirens started and people stop eating and started calling loved ones to let them know they were okay and to find out how if their family and friends were safe. Interesting thing, before the storm hit, everyone was just laughing, eating and having a good time. Now the preacher inside of me wants to preach so here it goes. There is something we can learn about God in everything and every situation.
Some things I have learned about Storms and Tornados
1. When a storm hits your focus changes immediately to what REALLY MATTERS!
2. There are some that will just ignore the sirens and keep eating and drinking - the Bible has a lot to say about this even in relation to the second coming of Christ!
3. We start Praying and talking to God - even if it is in short phrases, such as, "God help me!"
4. It shows what our real concerns are when a storm hits.
5. Tornado sirens are sounding - make your heart beat when you drive by one that is going off. We all need sirens in our lives to warn us if we are headed for trouble.
6. After a storm, people are more willing to help each other than before a storm hits.
Those are just some random thoughts from a preacher about the storm last night. And NO Belton did not get blown away by a tornado.
